As we gear up for action at the start of the year, allow me to wish you a very joyful and productive 2017! The Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN) is a network, and this could not have been felt more strongly in the preparations for the 7th RWSN Forum and the event itself. The Forum in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire at the end of 2016 witnessed vibrant exchange between 450 participants from over 60 countries. There were 40 different sessions, not to mention numerous informal networking opportunities.
Given that RWSN comprises 9,000 individual members in 149 countries, plus 37 member organisations most of the RWSN family was not able to attend. And so, 2017 will see RWSN’s bringing the content, contacts and idea from of the Forum to the full membership through:
- the forum website with all the content and media coverage
- forum report and proceedings (which we are working on now)
- two webinar series, the first starting in mid-April
- online discussions and workshops at other face-to-face events
- a series of RWSN publications
- other ideas from you!
We shall keep you posted through our newsletters in English and French, website and blogs.
So as we get into 2017, let us see how we can continue to learn from each other and collaborate as a network and as members. Bringing about safe and affordable water for everyone in rural areas and small towns is a tremendous undertaking – but we can work together!
About RWSN and being an RWSN member
RWSN is a network of professionals with a vision of a world in which all rural people have access to a sustainable and reliable water supply which can be effectively managed to provide sufficient, affordable and safe water within a reasonable distance of the home. Membership is open to all and free. RWSN is not a formal organisation, but an on-going collaboration between individuals and organisations, supported by a small secretariat (3 part time staff) hosted by Skat Foundation in Switzerland. Within RWSN there are a number of discussion groups that you can join and contribution to. You can join the groups through the link and use the following email addresses to communicate with the group. Members of these groups are always keen to answer interesting questions, so no need to be shy.
We only use the main RWSN group to send out the RWSN newsletter and major announcements.

Permettez-moi tout d’abord de vous souhaitez une bonne année 2017, en espérant qu’elle soit productive et pleine de joie ! Le Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN) est un réseau, et cela s’est vraiment fait ressentir pendant les préparatifs pour le 7ème Forum RWSN et lors de l’évènement lui-même. Le Forum à Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, qui a eu lieu à la fin de 2016, a été l’occasion d’échanges vivants et intéressants entre les quelque 450 participants venus de plus de 60 pays. Il y a eu plus de 40 sessions, sans compter les nombreuses opportunités de réseautage informel.
Etant donné que le RWSN comprend plus de 9,000 membres individuels dans 149 pays, et 37 organisations membres, la plupart des membres de la famille RWSN ne pouvait pas y participer. Donc en 2017, le contenu, les contacts et les idées découlant du Forum seront mis à la disposition de tous les membres à travers:
- le site du Forum avec tout le contenu et la couverture médiatique (en anglais seulement pour l’instant: version française bientôt disponible)
- le rapport du Forum et le journal contenant les publications acceptées (sur lequel nous travaillons actuellement)
- deux séries de webinars, la première commençant mi-avril
- des discussions en ligne et des ateliers lors d’autres évènements en présentiel
- une série de publications RWSN
- d’autres idées provenant de vous!
Nous vous tiendrons au courant à travers nos bulletins d’informations en anglais et en français, notre site et nos blogs.
Maintenant que 2017 est arrivé, voyons comment nous pouvons continuer à apprendre les uns des autres et collaborer en tant que réseau et en tant que membres. Apporter de l’eau potable à un coût abordable pour toutes les personnes résidant en milieu rural demande un effort considérable – mais nous pouvons travailler ensemble!
A propos du RWSN et des membres du RWSN
RWSN est un réseau de professionnels partageant une vision d’un monde dans lequel toutes les personnes vivant en milieu rural ont accès à une eau durable et fiable, qui peut être géré de manière efficiente pour un approvisionnement en eau potable et suffisant à un coût abordable et à une distance raisonnable du foyer. L’adhésion est ouverte à tous et gratuite. Le RWSN n’est pas une organisation formelle, mais une collaboration continue entre individus et organisations, soutenu par un petit secrétariat (3 employés à mi-temps) hébérgés par Skat Foundation en Suisse. Vous pouvez consulter le site du RWSN, la bibliothèque et le blog.
